Following a lengthy illness, Roger Alan Mendenhall, 74, went home Sunday, September 11, 2022 to be with his Lord and Savior. He passed away at Green V alley Nursing Home.
He was born February 26, 1948, at Davenport, Oklahoma, the son of Cecil Mendenhall and Katherine (Dougherty) Mendenhall Mason. At the age of 14, he moved with his family to Pampa, Texas and graduated from Pampa High School in 1966. He attended OSU Okmulgee Technical School majoring in mechanics. He joined the United States Navy serving from 1966 until 1972 earning the rank of EM3 Petty Officer.
He earned a commercial pilot license from Bill Sellers Aviation in Enid and chose to become a charter pilot, traveling all over the United States. He also was a pilot instructor. He also loved crop dusting. At one time he owned a 1958 Cessna 182-B. His other varied interests included being an avid hunter, firearm sports, drag racing and even building his own dragster, loved motorcycles and especially his 1968 Harley Electra-Glide. He was a lifetime member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include three daughters: Elisha, Rita and Ginger; four siblings: Randy Mendenhall and his wife Connie; Kathy Ewy and her husband Rusty; Karen Mason and her husband Benny Richards; and Derek Mason and his wife Rhonda; seven grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father; stepdad Howard Mason, two brothers: Royal Mendenhall and Rick Mendenhall; and a nephew, Ricky Mendenhall and niece Evelyn Shay.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted in care of Dighton-Marler Funeral Home-Perry. Visitation will be from 12 noon to 8 p.m. Wednesday, September 14, 2022, at the Dighton-Marler Funeral Home Chapel, 203 East Fir Avenue, with family visitation from 6 to 8 p.m.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, September 15, 2022 at the Perry Church of Christ with Mr. Troy Woolery, minister, officiating. Burial will follow at Grace Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ryan Rodgers, Jeremy Zemp, Colton Brien, Stephen West, Denton Farrar and David Mendenhall. Honorary bearers are Dennis Feken, Wayne Crabtree and Joe Harms.
