Ruth Fayetta Martin

December 11, 1915 — August 18, 2016

Ruth Fayetta (Hall) Martin, 100, completed her earthly journey, joining her Lord, family, and friends on Thursday, August 18, 2016. Funeral Services have been entrusted to Palmer Marler Funeral Home in Stillwater.

She was born December 11, 1915 near Isabella, Oklahoma, the only daughter of Lester F. Hall and aggie (Fortner) Hall. As a child she attended school in several Central Oklahoma communities, graduating from Stillwater High School. She then attended Southern Nazarene University (SNU) where she chose a major in Speech.

On June 11, 1939, she married Loren R. Martin in Stillwater. They settled in the Oklahoma City area eventually moving to Bethany where they lived for 53 years. Loren preceded her in death on August 27, 1992.

As her children entered school, Ruth began to think about finishing her education, but by that time her dreams were different. She wanted to teach school. She returned to SNU and finished the course work for degree in Elementary Education, graduating in 1958. She later earned a Master of Education degree from the University of Central Oklahoma. She taught first grade for four years and fourth grade for 20 years in the Bethany Public School system.

Ruth's many interests kept her alert and active. She put her speech training to use, reciting poems and readings at churches and other gatherings. She wrote poetry, and the family understands that before a scrap of paper is tossed, one checks for a poem. She was an artist, and over the years many friends and relatives received, tucked into a letter or card, a 3x5 card with an illustration by Ruth and a Bible verse or perhaps a poem written by her. She loved nature. At Martin Family Reunions, Ruth often took the children on nature walks. An accomplished seamstress, she could see an outfit and go home and recreate it. She sewed for herself as well as her children. She was an avid reader. Family nights at the Martin home could easily be everyone curled up in a chair reading a book.

She was a member of the Oklahoma City First Free Methodist Church, and attended Sunnybrook Christian Church after moving to Stillwater in 1995. Always faithful to her Heavenly Father and her church, she served her church in many capacities including, teaching Sunday School, and leading Children's Church.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers; Edsel and Forrest Hall. Celebrating her home going are two daughters; Marylyn Joy and husband Verle of Winona, TX, and Joyce Drew and husband Alan of Stillwater, OK. one son, David Martin and wife Janet of Canon City, CO. Grandchildren are; Karin(Joy) Esselstrom and husband Rich, Douglas Joy and wife Katreena, Brea(Drew) Rossen and husband Kevin, Timothy Martin and wife Cory, Nate Martin and wife Heather, and Megan (Martin) Crumley and husband Logan. Also, there are 22 great-grandchildren.
