Ruth M. Peery

Former long-time Stillwater resident, Ruth Johnson Peery, died Sunday morning, May 31, 2009 in Guthrie, Oklahoma at the age of 97. She was born on May 29, 1912 in Calumet, Oklahoma to William and Pearl (Ulrich) Johnson. Her family later moved to Stillwater where she attended Jefferson Elementary and graduated from Stillwater High School class of 1931. Ruth is survived by her son, Herb Riley and his wife, Patty of Ruidoso, New Mexico and her daughter, Sue (Haycraft) Santee and her husband Tommy of Pierce City, Missouri. Also surviving are six grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, her step-daughter, Ann (Peery) Ritter and two step-sons Ed and Hugh Peery. She will be fondly remembered for her many years as an active Cub Scout/Girl Scout leader and as an accomplished seamstress. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Stillwater, life-time member of the Stillwater High School Alumni Association, Lady Ikes, Stillwater Hospital Auxiliary and secretary for Stillwater Transfer and Storage for fourteen years. Funeral arrangements for Mrs. Peery have been entrusted to the care of the Palmer Marler Funeral Home of Stillwater and her visitation will be held Wednesday from 1:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. at the Palmer Marler Funeral Home in Stillwater. She will then be taken to the Fairlawn Cemetery in Stillwater for Graveside Services to be held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 3, 2009 with Tommy Santee her son- in -law officiating.
