Sharon Ann Thurman, 63, resident of Perkins, Oklahoma died February 11, 2008 after a year and a half long battle with cancer. She attended college at Mississippi State College for Women in Columbus, Mississippi and Oklahoma State University. It was at OSU that she met her husband Dr. Charles Wesley (Wes) Thurman and graduated with her bachelors and masters degree in Elementary Education and as a Reading Specialist. Their passion for horses brought them together and they spent much of their early married life on horseback. Sharon spent her teaching career helping and loving children in the Luther and Perkins school districts. She taught locally in the Perkins School District for 25 years as the Title I Reading Specialist. She helped give her students confidence, self esteem and the reading skills necessary for them to be academically successful. She changed lives by giving children the gift of reading when nobody else could. What greater gift can you give a child? Sharon was a devout member of the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Stillwater, OK and the Oklahoma Retired Teachers Association. She volunteered to help and serve others with her numerous gifts and will always be remembered as a dynamic, thoughtful, and generous person. Her positive outlook was infectious as well as her smile and laughter. Her main priorities were her faith, family and friends. She is survived by her spouse, Wes Thurman, 2 daughters, Jonnell Thurman and Stacy Lacy, son-in-law Rudy Lacy, 3 grandchildren; Tylan, Kelbi and Weston Lacy, all of Perkins OK and 1 brother, Bob Jacobs of Austin, Tx. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hank and Patsie Jacobs, and her brother, Karl Jacobs. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to Judith Karmen Hospice or the American Cancer Society. Condolences may be sent to the family via www.pmcfh.com. A memorial service will be held at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Stillwater on Saturday, February 16, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. Wes Thurman, husband of 43 years, would like to close with the following remarks. May she always have light to guide her, comfort to cheer her and food and drink to nourish her. May her horse always carry her swiftly; may the wind always be to her back and may she always ride a smooth trail. IWALY, WTOTC
