Shenista Renee Furman passed from this life on December 15, 2023, at Stillwater Medical Center after a brief illness. She was 75 years old.
Shenista was born November 23, 1948 in Waurika, Oklahoma to Melvin and Mary Kiser (Miller). After Shenista graduated from Marlow High School, she went on to study library science at Oklahoma State University graduating in 1972 with a Bachelor of Science degree. During her last weekend of college, she met the love of her life Danny Furman.
On October 7, 1972, Danny and Shenista married and started their life together in Stillwater. In June 1976, they had their only child, Danna. In December 1978, Shenista received her Master of Science degree from OSU. She spent 46 years in the Stillwater Public School system starting as a high school librarian and then moving to Sangre Ridge Elementary where worked until she retired. She was very proud to be able to say that she taught four generations of kids. She was known throughout the school system and the generations of kids as “The Furmantor” which she thought was hilarious and said she proudly earned. She loved reading and talking about her school kids.
She especially loved talking about her grandkids, Cole and Allison, to anyone that would listen. She was very proud what good kids they are and was excited to see what their lives had in store for them.
She is preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Judy Kiser.
She is survived by her husband of the home; daughter Danna Collins and husband Joey of Wapanucka, OK; her grandchildren Cole Collins and Allison Collins of Wapanucka, OK; sister Kathy Sharp and husband Ron of Guthrie, OK; and a numerous nieces and nephews.
