Shirley was born November 18, 1938 in Lincoln County to George and Jessie (Simpson) Gladden. She grew up the Cushing area and graduated from Stillwater High School in 1956. She and Olin Wright were married on December 21, 1957 in Lincoln County where they made their home until her passing. Shirley has been a licensed beautician since 1967. In her later years of styling hair, she was always eager to go and pick her local customers and bring them to her salon to fix their hair and take them back home, but the thing she will be most remembered for are all the years in the Rocking W Farm Dairy business southeast of Cushing and traveling the country showing dairy cattle and winning many local, state, and national awards. She and Olin managed and operated the dairy farm from 1970 until May of 2019 when Shirley and Olin both suffered strokes causing them to retire.
Shirley was named Mrs. Oklahoma in 1981 and went on to compete for Mrs. America in Las Vegas. She was also a seamstress, sewing several wedding dresses for different family members. Some of her fondest memories were following her children and grandchildren around the country supporting them with all of her good cooking around the show barns while they were showing cattle.
Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Olin Wright of the home; three sons, Randy Wright and wife Rhonda, Steve Wright and wife Terri all of Cushing, OK., and Nick Wright and wife Deanna of Parkland, Ok.; one daughter, Brenda Hoffer and husband Galen of Cushing, Ok.; one sister, Sue Green of Cushing, OK.; two brothers, Bill Galdden and wife Teresa of Cushing, Ok., and John Gladden and wife Becky of Stroud, Ok.; grandchildren, Ricky Wright, Matt Frazier, Brandon Wright, Jarod Wright, Amber Wright, Nathan Wright, Nicholas Wright, Noel Wright, Nichole Wright, Nolin Wright, Alysa Wright, Hannah Crawford, Nathan Robertson, Marc Robertson, Johnna Thomas, Heather Carnaghy, and Krista Rockow; 37 great-grandchildren.
