Stanley Donald Green
Stanley Donald Green, 79, passed away Saturday, November 24, 2007 with his family at his side. Stanley was born January 19, 1928 in Brooklyn, New York to Isidore and Amelia Leserowitz Green. He grew up and attended school in Manhattan, New York. Stanley had a passion and a gift for music and attended college at the Eastman School of Music, University of Rochester in Rochester, New York. He received his Bachelors Degree, Masters Degree and a Performers Certificate completing his education at the Eastman School of Music in 1950. While in college, he specialized in the clarinet and was a member of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, the Rochester Civic Orchestra and the Mozart Chamber Orchestra of New York. Stanley was also a member of the Phi Beta Mu, Phi Mu Alpha and Kappa Kappa PSI National Honorary Associations. Stanley served in the United States Army and was a member of the United States Army Band during the Korean Conflict. He was stationed at Fort Sill in Lawton, OK where he met his wife of 55 years, Colleen Blaylock Green. He completed his service and they were married October 11, 1952 in Golden, Colorado. They moved to Sedgwick, CO where Stanley served as Director and Coordinator of Music for Sedgwick County Schools. After one year in Sedgwick, Stanley was offered a position at Oklahoma State University. He and Colleen moved from Colorado to Stillwater, OK in 1953 where they enjoyed the remainder of their time together and were blessed with two children, Corky and Lori. Stanley worked at Oklahoma State University for 42 years as a Professor and Director of Arts and Science Extension. His two great loves in life were music and his family and his position at OSU allowed him to devote himself fully to both. While at OSU, Stanley directed all of the OSU musicals and served as Assistant Director of the OSU Marching Band. He was a member of the National University Extension Association, American Association for Adult and Continuing Education, National Education Association, Oklahoma Educators Association and Oklahoma Music Educators Association. Stanley loved Stillwater and served the community in a variety of capacities. He served as a member of the Oklahoma Humanities Council and was a founding member of the Stillwater Arts and Humanities Council as their first program chairman. He was a founder and Charter member of the Board of Directors of the Stillwater Guidance Center and a Charter member of the Stillwater Investment Club serving one year as their President. Stanley was also appointed Honorary Colonel of Governors Staff by the State of Oklahoma for his musicals that were in great demand and were performed statewide. Stanley served his community and his country but his greatest service was to his family. He was a man of honor and lived each day dedicated to providing, protecting and loving each of his family members. He had a strong spirit yet was always able to gently comfort and care for all those who turned to him. He always opened his home and his heart to those who needed him regardless of the circumstance. Stanley loved to travel, read, listen to good music, to play cards and spend time with those he loved. His sense of humor, love of chocolate and gift of music are just a few of his many wonderful traits that will be greatly missed. He is described by family and friends as having the heart of a servant and the patience of Job. He was the rock for his family and his passing is a great loss to all those who were blessed to know him. Stanley was preceded in death by his father, Isidore Green and his mother, Amelia Leserowitz Green. He is also preceded in death by his Uncle Morris Leserowitz of Manhattan, NY who was a great influence in his life. He is survived by his wife, Colleen Blaylock Green; children, Courtland Corky Green of Shreveport, LA and Lori Green of Stillwater; grandchildren, Jim and Jennifer (Owens) Bennett of Jenks, OK and Colby Owens of Stillwater and his great-granddaughter, Taylor Bennett of Jenks, OK. He is also survived by his brother Myron and his wife, Mary Ann Green of Rochester, NY; two sister-in-laws, Juanita Daughtrey of Tyler, TX and June Rosheim of Lawton, OK and several nieces and nephews. Services to celebrate the life of Stanley will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in Palmer-Marler-Carberry Funeral Home with Rabbi Charles Sherman. Burial will follow at Fairlawn Cemetery, Stillwater.
