Steve Brown

Steve Brown, 67, long time resident of Grove, OK passed away peacefully surrounded by his close family on August 18, 2023 in Stillwater, Oklahoma.

Steve was born July 19, 1956 in Bartlesville, Oklahoma to Joe Vernon Brown Jr. and Shirley Jean Brown (McClure) and was the oldest of four boys. Steve graduated from Edmond High School in 1974 and went to earn his Associate’s degree in Applied Sciences and a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management from Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma. He worked as a manager at TG&Y from 1972 - 1978, manager of Dillard’s Department Store from 1978 - 1981 and after that was employed by Oryx Energy until he moved to Grove, Oklahoma in 1990 and worked for 10 years at Grove Integris Health hospital as contract personnel maintenance.

In early 2000s he got his licenses in HVAC, electric and plumbing and worked as a contractor at his own business Brown Enterprises until he became disabled due to his medical setbacks in 2019.

Steve’s journey led him to travel to Kazakhstan where he found the love of his life Gulnara Brown (Mardeyeva). Steve and Gulnara were married on June 5, 2004 in Aktau, Kazakhstan with their daughter Marina in attendance. After moving his family back to Grove, they welcomed their second child Daniel Brown on June 8, 2006.

Steve was the most loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and was very proud of the little family they built. After retiring he spent most of his time staying busy, helping with projects around the house and assisting Gulnara with her furniture endeavours. Steve found much joy in spending time with his grandson Elliot who referred to him as Papa. Even though he was very sick at the end of his life he found the strength to attend a baby shower for his soon to be born granddaughter, Evelyn just few days before he passed away. His family will cherish those memories forever.

Steve was proceeded in death by his parents Joe and Shirley Brown, by his brother Scott Brown, Uncle John McClure and Aunt Donna McClure, and Uncle John Bull.

Steve is survived by his loving wife, Gulnara Brown; son, Daniel Brown; daughter, Marina and husband Enrico Alvarado; grandson, Elliot Alvarado, and soon to be granddaughter, Evelyn Alvarado. He is also survived by his brothers, Bill Brown and John Brown; Aunt, Myrna Bull; numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

The family would like to say a special thank you to Dr. Anand Khurana and Fresenius Dialysis Center for special care they gave to Steve the last few years of his life. Also, to all his nurses, aids, and staff for all the help, support, and care they provided Steve during his final days.

Arrangements entrusted to Dighton-Marler Funeral Home of Stillwater, Oklahoma.

A graveside service will be at 11:00 am Wednesday, August 23, 2023 at North Olympus Cemetery in Grove, Oklahoma.
