Thurman Ray Bishop

Thurman Ray T.R. Bishop was born on April 5th, 1933 to John and Myrtle (Robinson) Bishop in Winfield, Kansas. T.R. grew up and graduated from high school in Pawnee Oklahoma. He then enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served his country for over 21 years. He was Honorably Discharged from the Air Force in 1973. He had attained the rank of Tech Sergeant at the time of his retirement. T.R. married Darleene Heisler on December 27th, 1953 and they moved to the Cleveland, Oklahoma area in 1973 where he has resided since. Darleene preceded him in death in 1999. T.R. then married Sherry Langston on November 9th, 2003 in Mannford, Oklahoma.
T.R. attended auctioneering school in Nashville, Tennessee and was an auctioneer for 39 years. He was also a Hamm Radio operator with the call sign of W5GRC for over 40 years. He loved to fish and play on the computer. He was an avid reader and especially enjoyed reading Louis Lamoure books and the Louis Myer bookshelf. T.R. enjoyed flying airplanes and when he could not fly real ones, he enjoyed flying radio controlled planes. He enjoyed spending time with his family and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. T.R. was active in the Cleveland VFW Post and the Mannford VFW Post as well. He served as the Post Commander, Chaplain, the Honor Guard, Secretary and various other positions in the organizations. He was also a member of the Cross Country Chapel Church.
T.R. passed away on March 27th, 2006 at his home in Cleveland, Oklahoma. He was 72 years of age. He is survived by his wife, Sherry Bishop of the home; one daughter, Karan Hawkins of Cleveland, Oklahoma; one son, Louis Bishop of Cleveland, Oklahoma; 4 grandsons, Ryan Hedges and wife Amy of Cleveland, Kris Hawkins and Fiance Jamie of Cleveland, Keith Bishop and wife Becca of California, Dillon Bishop of Vinita, Oklahoma; 3 granddaughters, Randi Hedges of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Amber Bishop of Cleveland, Shannan Kelly and Husband Travis of Cleveland; 5 great grandchildren, Aspen, Raynee and Wyatt Hedges of Cleveland, London Thompson of Tulsa, Angel Bishop of Cleveland; 2 sister-in-laws, Rosealie Snow and Verna Heisler; 1 brother-in-law, Warren Heisler and wife Geraldine; 1 cousin, Neldia Way; several Nieces and Nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
Services for T.R. Bishop will be held on Thursday, March 30th at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel at Highland Cemetery in Pawnee, Oklahoma. Chaplain Billy McGill will be officiating. Pallbearers will include Ryan Hedges, Kris Hawkins, Sonny Janes, Rich Miller, Heath Heisler and Jim Luman. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 29th from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Palmer Marler Carberry Funeral Home in Stillwater, Oklahoma. The family has entrusted Palmer Marler Carberry Funeral Home in Stillwater, Oklahoma with the arrangements.
