Travis Leroy Martin

February 3, 1923 — November 28, 2010

Travis LeRoy Martin of Yale died Sunday, November 28, 2010 at the Stillwater Medical Center. Born February 3, 1923 to Alice Pearl Parrish and Micle William Martin, Travis early years were spent in Creek County, Oklahoma. Travis graduated from Pleasant Hill High School, attended Oklahoma A & M University and on October 10, 1942, he married his high school sweetheart, Francille, and began 68 years of marriage. Travis was a member of the U.S. Army Military Police during World War II stationed in Tacoma, Washington. After his tour of duty ended, he returned to Drumright where he worked for Tide Water Refinery before moving to Yale in 1952 where he began a 33 year career with Sun Oil Company. Travis will long be remembered for his love of country music and time spent entertaining the community and surrounding areas with his band, The Rhythm Wranglers. He enjoyed having lunch with friends at the Yale Senior Citizen Center and was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church. Life was complete with four children, three daughters and a son; Alice Lee and Ronnie Williams, Grand Prairie, Texas; Norma Sue and David Joe Talbott, Odessa, Texas; and Linda Kay and Bob Simon, Yale, and Travis Jr. preceded him in death in 1995. The Martin grandchildren, Mike and Rod Williams; Garrett Talbott, Tamra Talbott-Bullard; Rick Joshua and Savannah Martin; Christy Poe and Tracy Hill; great-grandchildren, Tiffany Williams-Ross, Chris and Tyler Williams, Tyce, Paityn, Daygan and Kayne Talbott; Nia Marie Bullard; Huston, Lindsay, Mason, and Olivia Poe and Makinze Hill were always a source of pride and joy to Granddad G-G Boom-Boom Martin. In addition to his parents and son, Travis was predeceased by his brother, William Buddy Martin. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation for all of the wonderful care given to Travis by the employees of Stillwater Medical Center. In one last tribute to his life, Travis memorial service will be held at Shamrock Cemetery, 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 1, officiated by Mich Dersham. The family suggests memorials be made to the First Baptist Church or Yale Senior Citizen Center. Services have been entrusted to the care of the Palmer Marler Funeral Home, Yale, OK. Condolences and an online guestbook are available at www.PalmerMarlerFH.com.
