Veatrice Viola Brake, 93, of Stillwater, Oklahoma, passed away on Friday, October 29, 2010. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, November 3 at Highland Park Methodist Church with Pastor Derrek Belase presiding. Services have been entrusted to the care of Palmer Marler Funeral Home of Stillwater. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Veata was born July 29, 1917 in Perkins, Oklahoma to Sylvester and Matilda (Satterfield) Fagan. She married David Leroy Brake on August 29, 1942, who preceded her in death September 18, 1995. Veata attended Ripley Schools, later graduating from Perkins High School. After graduation, she moved to California with family. Returning to Oklahoma, she lived most of her adult life in Stillwater. At twenty-one, she began work for Dale and Margaret Fenton, assisting with the care of Suzanne Fenton Carpenter and the Fenton home. She later went to work at Fenton Office Supply, and worked there for 40 years until her retirement. Veata was active in the Stillwater community with the Isaac Walton League, Daisy Garden Club, and Professional Business Women of Stillwater. Veatas most prized gift and giving her the most joy was caring for, mothering, and mentoring to her family. She and David shared their home with many family members, brother, father, and many nieces and nephews over her lifetime. She loved to tell stories of her childhood, one being when the entire family traveled from Arizona in a covered wagon to Oklahoma, one of many great adventures in her lifetime. Veata was preceded in death by her husband, David Brake, her parents, Sylvester and Matilda Fagan, brothers Leonard, Roy, Roscoe, and Paul Fagan, and one sister, Gladys (Fagan Rakes) Garrison. She is survived by two godchildren, Suzanne Fenton Carpenter and Ron Rakes of Stillwater; one sister, Ethel McQuown of Oklahoma City; brothers, Kenneth Fagan and wife Wanda of Dumas, Texas, Richard Fagan and his wife Betty of Stillwater. She also leaves many nieces, nephews, and great, great, great nieces and nephews. A special thank you to the staff at Westhaven Nursing Home and Judith Karman Hospice for the loving care and to the many family members caring for her as she takes her next journey into the arms of our Lord. Memorial donations may be made to Judith Karman Hospice. Condolences may be sent to the family via an online guestbook at pmcfh.com.
