Viola Mae Crellin
Viola Mae Crellin, age 79, of Perkins, Oklahoma formerly of Taos, New Mexico passed away Wednesday morning, November 26, 2008 at her home in Perkins.
Her services have been entrusted to the care of the Palmer Marler Funeral Home of Stillwater, Oklahoma and will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, December 1, 2008 at the First United Methodist Church in Perkins with the Rev. Stephen Bredesen officiating. The Eulogy will be given by her daughter Becky Burtrum. At her request, Viola was cremated and will be taken home to Taos, New Mexico.
Mrs. Crellin was born on December 8, 1928 in Clearfield, Iowa the daughter of Roy and Hazel M. (McLaury) Graves. She graduated from Bedford High School in 1946. She was united in marriage to John S. (Jack) Crellin on September 11, 1949 in Bedford, Iowa. Vi worked as a legal secretary for many years in Winslow, Arizona and Albuquerque, New Mexico. In Taos, New Mexico she worked for the Taos Ski Valley as an assistant to the owner Ernie Blake and then worked for Taos Sand and Gravel for the Gonzales family, both of these later jobs she really enjoyed. She also enjoyed golf, snow and water skiing, fishing, bowling, bridge, was an avid horseman, and enjoyed trips to the mountains with Jack, Becky, Jan and all the Grandkids in the summer. She also enjoyed the many pack trips to the Chama Basin almost every summer. She lived in Taos, New Mexico for 32 years and then moved to Perkins, Oklahoma in 2003. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Perkins.
Vi, had been under care by Judith Karman Hospice for the past two years and the family grew very fond of all the caretakers that came..
She is survived by her husband, Jack Crellin: daughters, Jan Russey and husband Duane of Chandler, Arizona and Becky Burtrum of Stillwater, Oklahoma; brother, Marion Graves and wife Jean of Escondida, California; sister, Lois Cade of Clarinda, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Clay and Tina Burtrum of Stillwater, Cady and Kris Roberts of Dectur, Illinois, Kelly Burtrum of Portales, New Mexico, John and Lauren Burtrum of Morrison, Oklahoma, Carey Russey of Chandler, Arizona, Amy Russey of North Miami, Florida and Kelsey Russey of Chandler, Arizona; fifteen great grandchildren and countless friends from Taos, New Mexico and all over the Southwest.
Vi was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Eddie Graves.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Judith Karman Hospice, P. O. Box 818, Stillwater, Oklahoma 74076.
