Walter Solomon Brown

Funeral services for Walter Solomon Brown, age 82, of Perry, Oklahoma are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 9, 2009 at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Andrew Gilstrap officiating. Interment will be in the Grace Hill Cemetery. Mr. Brown was born on March 3, 1926 to Raymond Edward and Bessie (Cummings) Brown in Carney, OK. He grew up in Perry, OK and attended school at Blaine, where he met the love of his life Mildred Ratliff and to this union 15 children were born. Walter served his country honorably in the United States Army. He was employed as a heavy equipment operator, truck driver and worked for the City of Perry. Mr. Brown joined church at an early age and was affiliated with the AME Methodist Church, the Church of God in Christ, Perry, OK. He later joined the United Baptist Church, Seward, OK where he became an Associate Minister. Later he moved to New Prospect Baptist Church in Perry, where he continued his ministry until he health failed. The highlights of his life were his family. Mr. Brown passed from this life to be with his Lord and Savior on January 3, 2009 at the Westhaven Nursing Home. He is survived by: Wife Mildred of the home. 6 Sons: Walter Jr. Brown and wife Lora of Eufaula, OK Gary Brown of Stillwater, OK Tony Brown and wife Coco of Freemont, Nebraska Kenneth Brown of Perry, OK Willie Brown of Muncie, Indiana Ricky Brown of Brooklyn, New York 4 Daughters: Carolyn Lockhart and husband Al of Decatur, Georgia Glenda Brown of Stillwater, OK Sandra Brown of Stillwater, OK Gloria Farley and husband Tyrone of Porter, OK 25 Grandchildren and 34 Great-Grandchildren 1 Brother: Calivin Brown of Texas Host of nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by: his parents, 1 sister; Rosetta Thompson Davis, 2 brothers; Raymond and Alfonso Brown; 5 Children; Charles, Melvin and 3 stillborn Condolences may be sent using our online guestbook at www.perryfuneralh.com.
