Weldon Royce "Roy" Holsonbake, 88, of Perry, OK, passed away Sunday, March 12, 2017 at the Veterans Hospital in Oklahoma City, OK with his family by his side. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Palmer Marler Funeral Home in Perry. Services will be held Saturday, March 18, 2017 at 11am at the Palmer Marler Funeral Home Chapel in Perry, Oklahoma. Bishop Washburn will officiate the service, assisted by Brad Mitchell. Visitation will be 9AM to 8PM Friday, March 17, 2017. Family will receive guests from 6PM to 8PM. Roy was born February 9, 1929 to Steven William and Georgie Elisa (Bates) Holsonbake in Flynn, TX. At a very young age his family moved to western Oklahoma where they lived until Roy was about 8 years old. At that time the family moved to California where he lived until he turned 18 and joined the Army. He served nine years for his country, serving in Korea where he received several metals for his service. He and Darlene Span married in 1952, and to that union, three children were born. After that union was dissolved, Roy met and married Mary Ellen Hughes in Las Vegas, NV on October 17, 1971. His marriage was later sealed at the Mesa Arizona Temple on September 6, 1977. Roy was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Stillwater. Roy and Mary relocated to Nampa, ID where they worked together constructing mobile homes. In June of 1974 they moved to Pawnee to be close to family. They finally moved to Perry in 1988 where he remained until his passing. Roy enjoyed gardening, canning, fishing and traveling. He is survived by his daughter, Dawnie, and two sons, Mike and Bruce. Also, his second family of children, two daughters, Patricia Jones and Phyllis Smith both of Perry, OK; two sons, Stephen Layton of Broken Arrow, OK, and Kenneth Layton of Perry, OK; Twin brother, Seldon Holsonbake of California, brother, Fred Holsonbake. At least 25 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren, and a host of friends. Roy is preceded in death by his wife Mary Holsonbake in 2015; two sons, David Layton and Ervin Layton; one daughter, Donna Sisco; seven brothers, Jim Holsonbake, Howard Holsonbake, Floyd Holsonbake, Carl Holsonbake, John Holsonbake, Felix Holsonbake, Raymond Shobert, and one sister, Audery Northington, and his parents.
