Willard Lee "Hoppy" Hopkins age 85 of Perkins passed away Monday afternoon, May 10, 2010 at the family home in Perkins. His funeral services have been entrusted to the care of the Palmer Marler Funeral Home of Perkins and will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 13, 2010 in the Palmer Marler Funeral Home Chapel in Perkins with Pastor Rusty Rhoads, minister of the Calvary Assembly of God Church in Stillwater officiating. Interment with military honors will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday at the Summit View Cemetery in Guthrie, Oklahoma.
Mr. Hopkins was born on March 3, 1925 in Russellville, Arkansas and was the son of George William and Lenora Florence (Woodard) Hopkins. He grew up in Guthrie, Oklahoma, served in the United States Army during World War II, he then went to work for Falstaff Beer during which he ran for sheriff of Logan County.He also owned and operated clubs in both Cushing and Stillwater. He worked in the diecast division for Mercruiser in Stillwater retiring in 1994. He enjoyed working on old cars and tractors, keeping his lawn mowed and traveling. He was a life member of the V.F.W. On July 12, 1977 he was united in marriage to Patsie (Smith) Dodrill in Raton, New Mexico.
He is survived by his wife Patsie of the home; sons, Willard Dean Hopkins and his wife Marie of Stillwater, Wayne Earl Dodrill and wife Diane of Claremore; one daughter, Edwina Poole and husband John of Ripley; one brother, Jimmy Hopkins and wife Alma Faye of Guthrie; eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Ethel; four brothers, Oral, Bob, Earl, Wilbur and his first wife Ruth Handley.
In lieu of flowers those who wish may make memorials to hospice or to the V.F.W. Auxiliary Cancer Fund.
