William (Bill) James Harshman
October 8th, 1943 - January 5th, 2022
William (Bill) James Harshman was born to A.L. and Bertha (Whitmore) Harshman on October 8th, 1943 in Stillwater, OK. He went to be with the Lord on January 5th, 2022 in Edmond, OK. Services have been entrusted to Dighton Marler Funeral Home of Stillwater.
He attended Perkins Public Schools and graduated in the class of 1961. He married Karlanne (Knott) Harshman on November 23rd, 1963 at the Christian Church in Orlando, OK. They had three children Richard, Judith and Billee. When they met and married, Bill worked at Hauf’s Salvage in Stillwater, OK. He then went to work for the City of Stillwater, first in the Sanitation Department and then he moved to the Boomer Lake Power Plant. After 25 years, Bill retired from the Power Plant as the Assistant Superintendent in 1992.
Bill loved the rural atmosphere and enjoyed farming as both a hobby and a profession until his death. He also enjoyed traveling, hunting, fishing, playing Pitch and Solitaire, telling stories, and riding in the gator to look at the cows with Karlanne and his great-grandchild Gracie. He was not a professional educator, but he loved to pass on his talents and knowledge on to others, including his many grandkids. He was not a professional builder, but he built Karlanne a new house on the farm from the ground up in 2000 with some help from family and friends. He loved his family and friends. If anyone was ever in a ditch, all they had to do was call and he would get them out.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, his three children Richard Harshman of Coyle, Judith Brower of Morrison and Billee (Jaramie) Karcher of Kingfisher, eight grandchildren Kiersten (Blake) Houser of Perkins, James Brower of Cushing, Kaylee (Matt) Knott of Seiling, Keith Harshman of Coyle, Kaycee Karcher of Kingfisher, Dustin Harshman of Coyle, Dakota Harshman of Coyle, and Ethan Karcher of Kingfisher, and one great-grandchild Gracie Houser of Perkins. He is also survived by his sister Evelyn (Kenny) Smith of Coyle and his brother Bob (Louella) Harshman of Stillwater and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister Clara Young.
