William Carl Nechak

William “Bill” Carl Nechak was called home Friday August 27th, 2021 at the age of 66.
Bill was born in Milwaukee, WI June 22nd, 1955. He graduated Gateway Tech College in 1976 with his degree in Aviation. Bill had a passion for learning. A pilot, firefighter and “computer geek”, Bill enjoyed life and had a variety of interests. Bill’s moto for life was “No is not an option” and tackled every challenge head on.
Bill was an accomplished pilot and then transitioned into air traffic control for the FAA. He was instrumental in introducing the internet to the FAA academy where he taught aviation and safety to upcoming pilots. Bill also had a passion for fire science and served as a firefighter/EMT for 7 years.
Bill had a strong sense of community and enjoyed volunteering. Bill and Cathy had a shared passion for animal rescue and were founding members of Oregon Friends of Shelter Animals in 2002. Bill was a part of rescuing countless animals over 20 years as well as easing the suffering of those that crossed the Rainbow bridge.
Bill was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was always there for all of us. Whether it was to give advice, words of encouragement, or even one of his famous hugs. He was our hero. He taught us to be generous, kind, welcoming, and caring for others selflessly. He also taught us to be quick witted and how to deliver quirky jokes. He was never shy about how proud he was of his family. He was our loudest cheerleader at all the games and in our lives. We love him so much and will forever miss him.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents Nicholas and Elsie Nechak. He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years Catheryn Nechak; daughters Sara (Dean) Parnell and Nicole (Jerad) Warlick; grandchildren Dakotah, Connor, Kyler, John, Carson, Christian, Stryker, Ryder.
A private family service will be held Wednesday September 1st at 2 pm at Dighton-Marler Funeral Home and will be broadcasted via a private online meeting.
