Zealis Ancil Mitchell was born on April 10th, 1919 to Charles Allen and Anna (Williams) Mitchell in Yale Oklahoma. The family then moved to California where Zealis was raised and went to school. After high school, he enlisted in the Air Force where he served his country for over eighteen years. During the military he received numerous awards and medals and was a great hero. Zealis was united in marriage to his first wife Lawanda and the family moved to the Stillwater / Glencoe area in the 1960s. The couple was married for 59 years until Lawanda's death in 1997. Zealis then married Nerva Lorene (Pruitt) on December 27th, 1997 in Enid, Oklahoma.
Zealis was en electrician by trade. He was an actor starring in several movies in his younger years. Zealis and his first wife, Lawanda, went on many mission trips and built many homes along the way. They also Pioneered many churches and started several Soup Kitchens for those less fortunate. Zealis also served as an Evangelist and a Pastor. He was a very giving man who was always smiling. Zealis is remembered as always having a kind word and could find the best in the worst situation. He liked to fish and garden and loved spending time with his family. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
Zealis passed away on March 17th, 2006 at his home in Glencoe, Oklahoma. He was 86 years old. He is survived by his wife, Nerva of the home; a daughter, Charlotte Rogers and husband Jerry of Stillwater, Oklahoma; 9 step-children; 7 grandchildren; numerous great and great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. Zealis was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Lawanda, 1 daughter, Shirley Motsinger; a Brother and Sisters.
Services for Zealis will be on Tuesday, March 21st, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at the Palmer Marler Carberry Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Alvin Dalton and Rev. John Danner will be officiating. Burial will be at Ripley Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday, March 19th from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Monday, March 20th from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Palmer Marler Carberry Funeral Home.
