Zella Ann Trowbridge

Zella Ann (Kirkes) Trowbridge was born September 17, 1945 in Tuskahoma, Oklahoma. She left this earth peacefully surrounded by her family on Friday, October 6, 2023. Zella was the 11th of 12 children born to William Richard and Onie Frances (Carlton) Kirkes.

Zella spent her early childhood always tagging along with her dad and brother Greely. Going to the horseraces was one of her favorite past times of her childhood. The life adventures she lived around the homestead on Anderson Creek were always shared fondly with her children and grandchildren.

She graduated Buffalo Valley High School in 1963. She married the love of her life, Carrol Dee Trowbridge on August 31, 1968. They had three children whom they loved with all their hearts. Together they created a life full of faith, nurture, and admonition to the Lord. Their number one priority was to lead their children and grandchildren to Jesus. In her latter years some of her great joy came from being Grandmother and Great-Grandmother.

Zella held many jobs during her working career. Outside of being an amazing homemaker, she was a very talented floral designer. She worked at the phone company in Clayton for a while and retired as secretary with the Talihina Public Schools after 26 years. She showed love and compassion to the kids she came into contact with as well as an occasional counseling session.

Zella is survived by her husband of 55 years, Carrol Dee Trowbridge of the home; daughter, Kathy Huddleston and husband Kevan of Owasso, OK., two sons, David Trowbridge and wife Shelly, and William Trowbridge and wife Tonya all of Talihina, Ok; 12 grandchildren, Cassie Ann Taylor, Brandy Hinshaw, Courtney Wilkins, Dalton Taylor, Brody Cravens, Tanner Trowbridge, Tucker Trowbridge, Trevor Trowbridge, Jay Johnson, Ty Trowbridge, Jensyn Box, and Tymber Trowbridge; and 23 great-grandchildren; brother, Wayland Kirkes and wife Kay of Inola, OK; sister, Beverly Panach of Braman, OK.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Onie Kirkes; five brothers, Greely Kirkes, Grady Kirkes, John Kirkes, M.C. Kirkes, and Crockett Lee Kirkes; four sisters, Cannie Goodson, Claudean Burns, Louise Medders, and infant sister Iowna Francis Kirkes; and her in-laws, Alex and Geraldene Trowbridge.

Visitation will be 2PM to 6PM Tuesday, October 10, 2023 at Victory Baptist Church in Talihina. Family will greet guests from 4PM to 6PM. A Celebration of Zella’s life will be held on Wednesday, October 11, 2023 at 10AM at the Talihina School Auditorium with Pastor Danny Harris and Youth pastor Trevor Trowbridge officiating. Pallbearers will be Zella’s grandsons, Dalton Taylor, Brody Cravens, Tanner Trowbridge, Tucker Trowbridge, Jay Johnson, and Ty Trowbridge. Interment will follow at Cupco Cemetery.
